Why Pilates?

My true journey with Pilates began in 2014, with a trial class on the Reformer at Akasha Wellness in Bishop's Stortford. Prior to this my only experience had been my attempts to follow DVD classes in the comfort of my own home, however I never really grasped what some of the instructors were talking about - what on earth did they mean with 'like zipping yourself up'!!
In all honesty it was my Sister's idea to try Reformer Pilates, she had seen a new studio had opened in town and wanted to try it out, so she asked me to go with her. At the time I didn't really know what a Reformer was, but thought why not give it a try, little did I know where this would lead!
Admittedly my first attempts at trying to get my feet into the straps might not have gone to plan, and the laughing as our instructor told us to anchor our bottoms probably didn't help matters either, but as soon as I finished that first class I booked my next two. I was hooked!! The more classes I did, the more I felt the benefits; improved posture & better mobility.
Thanks to Akasha Wellness and their team of instructors my love of Pilates grew, and eventually I decided I wanted to share my love of Pilates with others and made the decision to take the plunge and train with the lovely Joanne Cobbe at JPilates. I qualified as a Level 3 Mat Pilates Instructor and trained for Essential & Progressive Reformer.
Within a month of qualifying I was teaching my first Reformer class at the studio that had started me on my journey. My initial nerves soon gave way as I started sharing my knowledge, teaching my very carefully planned class (that first class plan took me 2 days to write and rewrite, I wanted to make it perfect!), the feedback from the clients at the end was great and I couldn't wait to teach again.
In 2018 I set up Archer Pilates to continue to share my passion!
